An ident is a moving image or logo that is presented to the audience before a film/TV show has started. The principle of an ident is varied upon many purposes that are somewhat essential in the media industry. It makes the viewers aware of who the production company is or who is associated with the making of the film as well as standing out from other competition and to promote themselves.

So what makes an effective ident and what questions do you need to answer?

-Setting/time – Where is the ident set? Is it in the future, present or past?

-Tempo – How fast or slow the ident is, often determined by the music in the background.

-Audience interaction – Does it interact with the audience? Does all of the action happen inside the scene?

-Informative or entertainment – Is it meant to be informative or is it just for pure entertainment from visual elements?

-Density – How much information is in the ident? How full or empty is the screen? How much space is used/isn’t being used?

Paramount's ident starts with a crystal clear view of a lake with stars parading over the surface of the water, a tracking shot of the stars flying to the top of a mountain shows an extremely detailed landscape full of other smaller mountains and clouds. This could give the impression of this particular production company being one of the best as it is literally at the top. The many stars surrounding the word "Paramount" further influences the idea of the companies wealth and fame. From this ident I think that it is set in the future as the company is always looking for new angles and using vast amounts of technology to produce films. The background music has a majestic and graceful feel to it, as when it comes to the view from the top of the mountain there is a crescendo to exaggerate its glory. At the end of the ident you can see the text of "A Viacom Company", which is an American media conglomerate with interests of which are primarily in cinema and cable television.

Paramount has always been a leader of all sorts to the film industry as well as a residence to countless well-known motion picture productions and television series’ such as Star Trek on the Network of NBC, airing from 1966 - 1967.

They are extremely successful as they utilise the combination of their cosmic experience and latest state of the art technology in order to provide a hugely diverse variation of production services of which are managed by the professionals in the industry. In my honest opinion, there is no other production company or facility that has greater commitment, talent and technology other than Paramount.
