1. Summarise/describe the task – continuity task – film/edit character opening door, crossing room, sitting down in chair opposite another character, character exchange brief dialogue. Explain the skills you needed to show – continuity, match on action, shot reverse-shot, 180° rule.

We were set the task of recording a video that would have continuity between different shots, which was also a skill that needed to be signified from this task. Our first scene was of me walking down a corridor that would then switch to another scene of me approaching a door and opening it. The purpose of this being recorded was so that we practice our ability to make scene changes make sense and to not confuse the audience’s perception of the scene changes. We also had to have the exchanging of dialogue between characters in the shots so the video had some context and so that it wasn’t just a ‘random’ video. 

Another skill that was required for this activity was that of not breaking the 180° rule, this there is an imaginary line that cuts down the half of characters and the camera must stay on one side of this line unless it is the action of the camera switching onto the other side is filmed. This can be done by a pan or tracking shot to illustrate that it is passing over the line. 

We also had to include the shot types of’ Match on Action’ and ‘Shot reverse-shot’. A MOA (Match on Action) shot is demonstrated within my preliminary video when I had approached the door and the camera then switched to an extreme close-up of my hand on the door handle about to open the door, a MOA is supposed to emphasise to the viewer of where the character is going. A SRS (Shot reverse-shot) can be represented when the camera is place in a position where it is an over-the shoulder shot of one character and the other is opposite. The camera will then switch over to the other side where you can now see a profile shot of the previous character and now the shoulder of the other character.
