The Walk
I think that this trailer illustrated elements of an action,
crime, drama and romantic as a sub-genre. This is because of the narrative, a
man’s dream to cross a wire that he’d place at the top of two extremely high
buildings, being told nearly every minute that he wouldn’t be allowed to do
this. There were a variety of enigmas created by this, that of ‘Why would he
want to do this?’, ‘Why does he want to risk his life for death?’ and ‘Does he
succeed?’ The mise-en-scene was that of a wire for the man to walk across,
which had the intentions of making the audience feel scared for him and worry
for his safety and well-being. The location was realistic, being set in New
York which is a well-known place and is where most thrillers are set. The main
characters of this film were the man who wanted to cross the wire at the top of
two skyscrapers and his girlfriend, acting as support for him which hinted to
me the aspect of a romantic sub-genre to this thriller. The main male character
was associated with the theme of determination as his mind was set on walking
across the wire, daring and willing to risk his life to do this.
