5 Shot Analysis: Dexter

Within this image you can see the blotted text of “Dexter” written in blood with splatters of this substance smudged over the material in some places and dripping off the text. This to me gives the impression that the series is about a person who works closely with blood, of which further research shows that Dexter is a male Blood Splatter Specialist in the forensic department for a precinct.  

This shot signifies the very sinister side of the male and a surreal view of an egg being cut with ketchup squirted over it. The knife slices through the egg fast, this is when we see the ketchup added to the mix, implying that it was blood. Thus giving the impression that someone is being harmed.

In the next shot I denote an orange of which has been juiced, leaving the orange frail and weak, with bits of itself pushed together as a primary impact of being juiced. This only further implicates that the series will showcase moments of gore and sights not for the faint of heart.

These two images are close-ups of the male’s hands, straining as he pulls or tightens objects. It illustrates his strength and power, which further adheres him to the role of a psychopath/murderer, fitting to the genre of a thriller as the antagonist is usually a masculine male role.

The shoe laces symbolise to me the prop of a rope, the way he is pulling and tightening the material is as if he was strangling someone, which then also demonstrates the that there could be scenes of gore and death.
