San Andreas Analysis

San Andreas

This film hints at the romantic, disaster, mystery, eco, conspiracy, drama and action sub-genres. I think this because the world falls into a disaster of which buildings start to collapse in cities, giving the impression of a conspiracy, eco (man-made instead of natural), mystery, disaster thriller. A growing relationship between the main male and female character as the world falls around them which makes the indication of it being a romantic thriller too. From the narrative ask the questions of “What caused this?”. “Why is it happening?” and “Who dies and who survives?”

The mise-en-scene helps to show the sub-genres of action and drama as a helicopter is used to roam the airs of San Francisco, whilst a building crumbles over and only just missing the helicopter.

All of the characters hold out desperately to survive this disaster, the role of innocent bystanders running away from this is stereotypical as they are seen as worthless and only help to show destruction and ruin in this situation. The male heroic character of course tries to save all of the people in the city.
