Legend
Legend signifies the thriller sub-genre of crime, drama,
action and romantic. This is because of the chase and action sequences that
take place between the characters, also demonstrated because of the music which
is fast paced and synchronous to the movements from the two main characters.
From this the enigmas are that of “Why do they need to do this?”, “Who are they
after?”, “What are they fighting for/why are they in the mafia?”, “Who really
are the Krays?” and “Will they succeed?”
The mise-en-scene signifies the status and role of the
characters within the film, expensive furniture and clothing in the apartments exemplifies
their wealth and suggests that they have high paying jobs. They are always in
pubs and out at bars, which demonstrates that they are stereotypically ‘manly’
men who battle between life and war. Also the way the characters dress show
their status, in suits and tie with smart hair styles connoting their power and
strength, with rich lifestyles reflected through this mise-en-scene.
