Crimson Peak
Crimson Peak illustrates the sub-genres of mystery, action,
supernatural, disaster, horror, psychological and romantic thriller as the film
is about a woman who moves in with a mysterious male and his sister who does
not allow people to go into the basement, a spirit haunts the woman who moves
in and puts her in great danger. Thus creating the enigmas of “What is haunting
the house?”, “Who is the spirit after?” and “Why is it forbidden to go into the
basement?”
The location of this thriller is set in a faraway house,
nowhere to go which is typical in a supernatural, psychological mystery
thriller as if someone is in danger they have nowhere to run, stranded. You can tell by the clothing, of which is
outdated with its Victorian style that this is set in an older era which only
makes it even more ghostly, at that time there was not much knowledge of the
spirit world in film terms.
There is a romantic feel to this genre, which inhibits the
hint of a romantic thriller. A romantic dimension to the woman moving in and
the man. There is also a more sinister relationship between the woman and the
man’s sister, demanding her to not go into the basement, highlighting that she
may be keeping a secret.
